that's disappointing!

I have to say that it's far more important to us fiction writers to have order and hierarchy than it is to have a post in multiple series; I can handle that with a link-to-post plugin.

How much are you per hour? I can think of a half dozen people offhand with my same problem-- maybe we can pool together and hire someone.

Nope I don't think I've taken a look at this yet (the original post). I have added more sorting options for the latest series widget but not for the series widget. I'll add it to the feature requests on trac but as always - no promises when it might be implemented. As it stands, nothing will get implemented if I don't see a need for it in my own needs. I might implement things if I'm hired to do the custom work.

As for your other request probablepossible. It would take a lot (at least from my perspective) to create a heirarchal, orderable series list because of the way the plugin handles ordering of posts within series (by series part). I'd have to work out how it would order posts that are added to multiple series. I appreciate you're willingness to donate something towards this, I just don't know if I've got the desire to do it at this point (because of the time involved). Sorry.

Seconded! I'd also like to have a sidebar widget that shows the other posts in the series to which the current post belongs, but not the selector for all series. Also, I'd like to be able to change the default text for 'see other posts in this series' as the current text is too long to sit comfortably in my sidebar without breaking :)

Can we have a widget for Display list of series on post pages? The template I am using does not play well with your autoinserted code. I've been trying to figure out how to use the template tags, but I cannot find any example code. The functions you wrote are well documented, but I am not a programmer. I can take example code and cut and paste and make simple changes, but digging through your code to figure out what parameters need to be passed, and the proper syntax that needs to be used, and whether it needs another function needs to be called before you call that one.... it makes my head hurt.

So sample code I can insert into a template, and/or a widget would be awesome.

Thank you.

Plugin Version: 2.0.8
WordPress Version: 2.8.4

On blog posts that are not attached to a series, it still show the text "Other posts belonging to" in the sidebar when using the Series Widget.

Example post with a series:
http://energymattersmag.com/?p=4
(Widget works properly.)

Example post not attached to a series:
http://energymattersmag.com/?p=166
(Widget tries to display related articles in a series, except this article is not part of a series.)

We would like the "Other posts belonging to this series" to disappear on articles not part of a series.

Hi,

How do I sort the series list in the widget by the slug title rather than the description. I have my series set as dates and currently they're sorting by description in the widget. For example:

April 1, 2009
Dec 28, 2008
Jan 2, 2009

I'd like to set it up so that my slugs would be - 2009/04/01, 2008/12/28, 2009/01/02, that way they would be sorted properly in the widget by slug:

Dec 28, 2008
Jan 2, 2009
April 1, 2009

Darren,

Yes - permalinks are enabled for my wordpress install. When I click on the series widget - for example, I setup an issue for Feb 14, 2009 - it opens the url:

http://www.hairenik.com/weekly/series/021409/

and I get a page not found error. Any thought on what the issue is? The functionality works correctly except for opening up this TOC page. Any thoughts?

I installed the current version of the plugin, set it up and added the widget to the sidebar. I successfully added two posts to the series so now on my front page it says:

ISSUES (The name I put for the widget)

Feb 14, 2009 (2)

When I click on the Feb 14, 2009 (the name of the series) it opens the following page:

http://www.hairenik.com/weekly/?series=60

and it returns the following text:

"Page Not Found
We're sorry, but the page you are looking for isn't here.
Try searching for the page you are looking for or using the navigation in the header or sidebar"

What I'm expecting is to click on the "Feb 14, 2009 (2)" link and then open up a TOC of all of the posts in that series. Do you have any suggestions on what you think the issue is? Thanks so much!

Hello,

I just installed and setup Organize Series. I'm able to create a series and associate post to it and add the widget to the site. Unfortunately when I click on a series within the widget I get a "Page Not Found" message. I looked through the TOC issues on this site, but none of them resolved my problem. The URL for my site is:

Hi Darren!
Hope everything's fine with you. :)

OK, here's my issue: we just (yes, we're late, i know) widgetized our sidebar and want to display a list of all series. Is it correct, that the "most recent series" widget only displays ONE recent series?
If so, is it possible to change the amount of shown series, let's say, up to 5?

Thanks in advance and best regards,
Max.

A sort of tangentially related phenomenon I've been noticing is that on any series archive page, my Recent Posts widget (the default included with WP 2.5) displays links to the series posts, in order. However, on individual post pages it reverts to its normal behavior. Not sure if this qualifies as a feature or a bug. :)

Really? Cool...count it as a *feature* ;) albeit one that I certainly never planned for! (and at this point I'm absolutely clueless as to what's happening behind the scenes - unless the author of related posts hooked into my plugin without me knowing...)

However, on individual post pages it reverts to its normal behavior. Not sure if this qualifies as a feature or a bug. :)

I've added this feature request to a ticket. I can't put a timeline on when I'd actually implement this feature unfortunately (although a nice donation would speed things up ;) ). However, if you are interested in implementing something like this right away I can walk you through how to put it in your blog using existing functions for the purpose. Just let me know if you want that :)

Would this *have* to be a widget or could it start as a simple function for insertion in the theme? (the latter is already possible)

I should clarify that by "table of contents" I'm referring to the series-specific list of posts, not to the list of all series on a page or widget. (Not to be pedantic, but the latter, being arranged alphabetically, is really more like an index.)

I'm interested in an option to display the series table of contents list in the blog's sidebar somehow. It would want to be a widget that only appears when a post from the series is in the main column, and could function the same as the the present list. Even with a 500-px-wide main column such as I have now, it's hard to find a spot for the box where it doesn't interfere with the flow of content, especially if the content consists of poetry with longish lines or begins with a wide photo. I have one series from a couple of years ago that includes around 150 posts, an epic poem, and for that one it would be very useful to have a running TOC, but not if it's going to be a distraction - which would be hard to avoid for such a long list. I suspect that other bloggers would find this option useful, too.
