Hi there. I installed and activated the plugin tonight and it did the same thing to me. Afterward, no matter what link I selected, it took me to the Home Page. (Actually, the only exception was the Dashboard link, which worked properly.) Like the others, I deactivated and deleted the Organize Series plugins and the problem remained. When I tried the "/series" fix in the Custom Fields, everything worked again. I never had to refresh my permalinks. I am very glad to be able to use this plugin. I used it before and I love it. I am using WP 3.0 with the Atahualpa 3.5.1 theme and now they're working well with this plugin. Thanks!

Hi Darren. All fixed now. I suspect it was a name server issue, and the plugin was a red herring. Anyhow, all's well...

Thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks Darren. I'll give that a go. I think its odd a plugin would do that also, but everyone on the case is baffled as to why the site is not showing up...

FYI, both WP and OS were latest versions.

If you have any problems like this its best to start a new thread in the forums - I noticed your post but others who might help will ignore this thread because I've marked the previous issue here resolved.

The best way to fix potential plugin problems is to rename the wp-content/plugins directory to something else temporarily and see if that fixes it. (i.e. rename to wp-content/pluginsold )

If your website loads up you can then rename the directory back to "plugins" and visit your admin page for plugins and reactivate the ones that you need.

I HIGHLY doubt that Organize Series caused this as there are hundreds of people using it with no problems. Also, you didn't indicate what version of WordPress and Organize Series you were using.

Hi Darren,
I’ve just encountered a similar problem.

I was in the middle of activating the ‘Organise Series’ plugin and it seems to have taken my whole site down.

My site is http://www.protradedigest.com. It’s a Wordpress site hosted with Godaddy. Naturally I called Godaddy support first. They tell me all the files are still there, but they think it was a problem that came from Wordpress and/or installing that specific plugin. From their point of view, it was not a problem with the hosting.

To be honest, I have no idea what took the site down. It was either installing that plugin or an unrelated thing that happened at the same time (a coincidence?).

Are you able to help in any way?

All pages are now blank including the WP login page.

Thank you,
Guy

Onkelandy,

Yup, your suggestion worked. Looks like I have to tweak a series order or two, but at least the plugin is working again. Thanks much.

Thank you, too, Darren!

I had the same problem! But after re-installing and setting the custom base field to "/series" everything now works fine.

Thanks for your work and help! There are still some XHTML validation problems by the way ;)

Try just activating orgseries and visit the organize series options page. Then add in series in the new "custom base" field. See if that fixes anything.

It may be possible that the plugins didn't get copied over correctly to your server. Try deleting them and then reinstalling (all your series information should stay intact as long as you don't have the "delete data" checkbox checked on the series options page.

Okay,

Here's the latest. With the plugin(s) (I mean Org Series and Publisher) deactivated, I refreshed my permalinks and all was fixed! I was very happy.

Then, I turned Org Series and Publisher back on and then my problem started again.

Then, to test a theory, I turned off the plugins, refreshed permalinks, and all was well. Then I turned on plugins, did a permalink refresh, and the problem shows up again.

So for the time being, I'm going to disable, refresh permalinks and then see if anyone else experiences the problem.

What do you think? I REALLY love this plugin and I hate to be without it.

Darren,

I'll try refreshing the permalinks. I'm on GoDaddy so, to my knowledge, I have little access to .htaccess (unfortunately).

I'll let you know what happens.

Just out of curiosity, did you go to my site to see what's happening?

Joe,
That is a weird problem, but unfortunately I am unable to reproduce this on any of the three blogs I have the upgrade installed on. I know how frustrating when things like this happen but without being able to reproduce I have no way of knowing what the source of your problem is.

The fact that you are still having this problem after deactivating the plugin suggests that something else is going on because Organize Series DOES NOT change any core code.

The only thing I can suggest you try is refresh your permalinks (go to Settings/Permalinks).

While the timing may suggest its Organize Series there may in fact be something else going on (perhaps with your server? Has the .htaccess file been changed?)

Darren,

I just upgraded to 2.1.5 and there is a big problem. I am also using WP 2.8.5.

After I activated the plugin, I went to test it. I found a post that was part of a series but it didn't have any of the series info on it like it used to. It just looked like a normal, stand-alone post.

I went back to the settings and looked things over but did NOT change anything. When I went back to my site and tried to click on my "Post Index" page, I got a "Not Found" message within my blog. In fact, no matter what I clicked on, everything outside of the main home page was now showing as "Not Found." The odd thing was that it was not my normal 404 page template.

If I deactivate the plugin, then no matter what I click on, the site remains on the home page. The URLs will change to my permalinks, but the site appears to just refresh to the main home page.

Both scenarios tell me that it's the plug in. I need to get this taken care of since the plugin has definitely changed something and I can't get it back to where it was.

Also, all my existing series appear fine in the Posts menu. Something has happened in the code.
