Page Not Found - Everything Except Listing of Series Works

Hi All,

I installed Organize Series and the following work:

- TOC for all of the series - http://www.url.com/sitefolder/series (I get a listing of all of the series on this page)
- List of series on a post page
- Series Meta information

What doesn't work is the page of each series listing all of the posts for that series. For example - http://www.url.com/sitefolder/series/seriesname - I just keep getting a page not found error (either using my theme or the template file with the theme).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, in fact (I don't know if this is allowed on this forum) we would even pay for some support. Thanks!

Same for me. It worked at some time with another theme but it totally stopped working a few days ago. Just like you I have no idea why ... any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm getting this error now, too. It worked fine before. Perhaps something changed in the upgrade from WordPress 2.7 to 2.7.1?

@rednicholas @webteamarm Are you folks using the WP Security Scan plugin? I remembered that it's the most recent one I've added, so it was the first one I disabled just now. And sure enough: now the series pages come up just fine.

So I'm not sure if this is something Darren needs to fix or not, but WP Security Scan is an exceedingly popular plugin - and I'd like to use it again myself. But having functional series pages is more important.

@sonofbruce - no I'm not using the WP Security Scan Plugin. But I wonder if it's due to another Plugin I updated recently. I'm going to have to test this by deactivating them one by one. I almost didn't think about the impact of another Plugin ... thanks for the hint.

I have the same problem. We use the hybrid-news theme, the series TOC page was working fine till a few days ago. We have changed our post categories using the bulk-edit option. The post pages still shows "this is post x of y in series series-name" correctly, no issues either with count or series name there. However clicking on the series name gives a page not found error. No new plugins installed.

@satish.s - this sounds familiar. I did check o lot of my Plugins but it seems none of the installed ones is interfering with the series Plugin. I really hope for all of us that someone is going to figure this one out soon. I was looking for another series Plugin but there's nothing better out there.

I tried to put the series.php file in my theme directory because I thought there might be a problem with my theme design but it doesn't seem to be the problem either.

@rednicolas - finally got my series to work. As pointed out by others in this thread, it was an issue with another plugin - in my case the event category plugin. I installed the wp-debug plugin, went to the series page and looked at the query object in the footer. Pasted this into the database query browser and saw the error. Tracked the error to a table that the event calendar function was inserting into the query. Disabled the event calendar function and series seems to work.

@satish.s - you're great! I use the same Plugin and just checked ... same result ... deactivate the Event Calendar Plugin and the series are working again. I do have one question tough ... do you use already the beta of the next version of the Event Calendar Plugin or the one from the repository?

Because, if I do remember right, I used the repository version and there was no problem with the two Plugins but I switched to the beta version to have a full blown calendar showing on my calendar page.

I'm also going to leave a note for the Event Calendar Plugin developer on this ... do you have a fix other than deactivating the Plugin to make the series work?

@rednicolas - I did figure out how to fix the Event Calendar Plugin. There is a function called ec3_filter_posts_where in the eventcalendar3.php file. This is where it constructs the 'where' clause that is tagged on to the sql statement. The EC3 plugin does not recognize series as a taxonomy, so checks for is_page, is_single, is_admin and if none of these are true it assumes that this is a category. all you need to do is add || $wp_query->is_series and it works.

For the plugin I use, this is line 143 and reads:
if($wp_query->is_page || $wp_query->is_single || $wp_query->is_admin)
return $where;

change this to:
if($wp_query->is_page || $wp_query->is_single || $wp_query->is_admin ||$wp_query->is_series)
return $where;

That should do the trick.

Excellent. I'm using the beta version and can't seem to find that code, instead it reads as:

if($ec3->query->is_page || $ec3->query->is_single || $ec3->query->is_admin)
return $where;

i tried adding "||$wp_query->is_series" & "||$ec3->query->is_series" to no avail

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Actually - I got it to work with the "$ec3->query->is_series" code - the issue was with the series.php, i just removed the file and now it works!

@satish.s - thanks a bunch for the fix. I actually didn't need to add the '$wp_query' part but did need to add the '|| $ec3->query->is_series' part for the taxonomy.

@webteamarm - here's how my eventcalendar3.php file looks on the above mentioned function:
```
/** Rewrite date restrictions if the query is day- or category- specific. */
function ec3_filter_posts_where(&$where)
{
  global $ec3,$wpdb;

  if($ec3->query->is_page || $ec3->query->is_single || $ec3->query->is_admin || $ec3->query->is_series)
      return $where;
```
