I just finished getting the next version of my super duper series plugin for WordPress launched to the wild. Organize Series 2.1.5 has got some neat stuff in it:

New Feature: A bundled plugin called “Organize Series Publisher”. You don’t have to activate it if you don’t want but it’s there if you want to try it out! This new add-on for Organize Series is a take-off of the Issues-Manager plugin created by Jonathan Brinley and was sponsored by Amanda Giles who hired me to port Issues-Manager so it works with Organize Series. Amanda graciously agreed to have this released to all users of Organize Series! Basically, this add-on allows you to set a series so any posts assigned to it won’t publish until you explicitly publish the whole series. Read more about it on the Organize Series Plugin Page

New Feature: custom base for series permalinks. Yeah, now you can change ‘series’ to something like ‘myawesomesequenceofposts’…well, you can..

New Feature: Added a new function for you power users who want to be able to fully control the output of series data. get_series_ordered() has joined the party and you can thank Amanda for it too! With this function you can get series data from the database and manipulate it however you want when it’s returned. Do the tango with it if you want! Uh…yeah…

MAJOR fixes: As always, the users of Organize Series have been doing a great job of reporting bugs and stuff that doesn’t work and its kept me hopping spraying the raid code. I managed to knock off some major roaches in the process and I think some of you will be happy with that (I know I am!). Wanna know what I fixed? Head on over to the changelog and you can catch up on it.

There’s some other typos and minor stuff that I managed to polish up for this release as well. As always, I’ve tested things as much as I can but there may have been some nasties that slipped through. If you spot any, head on over to the support forums and let me know.

Oh, and one more thing. I’ve partnered with a company called wphelpcenter.com which is billed as “Your On-Call WordPress experts”. It’s a great newish service that has a team of cool folks who can help you with all your WordPress needs. If you have something that you need done with Organize Series “right away!” you can contact wphelpcenter.com (email: help@wphelpcenter.com or phone: 512-788-9236). If you give them my affiliate code: 14322, I’ll get commission on the help you buy for Organize Series. It’s a great way to help support the development of Organize Series and get help when I’m not available. However, I’ll still entertain any custom work you may have, just get in touch with me.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go try out the new version of Organize Series already!

Some more fixes to the code made it necessary for yet another release of Organize Series. Incidentally – I noticed that Travis Snoozy made the announcement that he is no longer actively developing his “In-Series” plugin and will only be maintaining it until he can find someone to take over it’s development. Working on Organize Series has made me painfully aware of just how much time and effort goes into developing these plugins and his work on In-Series certainly “prodded” my development of my own series plugin in some areas. Thanks for your contributions to the WordPress community Travis!

Without further ado, here’s the changeset for version 2.0.7 of Organize Series (you can download this version by clicking here):

Minor Changes:

Removal of extraneous html from series.php and seriestoc.php template files.

Updated readme.txt for suggestion to copy customized
series.php
and
seriestoc.php
files to theme directory.

Added missing
< /div >
to
seriestoc.php
file to fix “98%” of the typical default installations of this plugin.

fixed a potential bug with the
get_series_toc()
function/template tag.

Fixed a few spacing, code structure errors throughout the files.

Changed the “title” attribute for the
get_series_toc()
link to something a bit more friendly.

Major Changes:

Fixed bug affecting installs of Organize Series on blogs with a subdirectory in their blog address (i.e.
http://www.myblog.com/blog/
). In these setups the Series Table of Contents page re-direct wouldn’t work. This bug also affected custom seriestoc urls set on the Series Options pages with a multiple slash structure (i.e. the default is
\series\
, but if you used
\series\seriestoc
it wouldn’t work). Many thanks to Ken Carlson for his help in getting it fixed.

Yet another catchup post for my Organize Series plugin. The current version of the plugin is 2.0.6 and you can download it via this link. Here’s the changesets:

2.0.6 – Fixes a pretty major bug with the custom rewrite/permalink structure for series archives. This bug only shows up if you use certain prefixes to your custom permalinks such as
/archives/...rest of permalink
. Hat tip to Edward for the catch and fix.

2.0.5 – Contains the following bug fixes:

PHP error that was reported on the Manage Series page affecting certain installs.

.rss validation warning for series archive feeds thanks to this post

some typo fixes with readme.txt file

updating readme.txt to reflect that Organize Series works with WordPress 2.5.1

Okay, I wasn’t going to post about the recent interview Matt Mullenweg did with Blogging Pro but there was an intriguing response to one of the questions asked that led me to leave a comment on Photomatt where Matt posted about his interview. The purpose of my comment was to try and tickle out more information – alas my comment was deleted for some reason and so I find myself writing this little blurb in my blog hoping (I’m not quite at begging yet hehe) that someone might have more information

UPDATE: Mysteriously my comment reappeared on Matt’s site…dunno what happened there hehe

Anyway, in the interview, Matt was asked,

What?s Automattic?s next move? I know you have been focusing on the next versions of WordPress, and your great Anti-spam service Akismet, but with the people in the Automattic now and your great eye for filling a gap in the marketplace, could you give out any hints on what we can expect next?

Tucked in his response was this reply…

We?ve got a few plugins and services we?ve cooked up internally that we?re going to provide to open source, including a little todo/project management app.

“todo/project management app.” plugin for wordpress? Now that would be nice. I’ve searched all over for a nice plugin that would do this in wordpress and have come up short. I’ve even contemplated writing my own code but unfortunately my coding skills are rather limited and I’m short on time for the moment. If the team at Automattic was to come out with this anytime soon it would make my day!

I don’t know why my comment got deleted on Matt’s site but I hope more news will be forthcoming – that teaser in his interview was just cruel! (from my point of view anyway hehe)

UPDATE: Thanks to opa (see comments below)? I’m now trying out a “To-Do” plugin by Abstract Dimension.? It’s much better than what I’ve been using and so far it’s pretty neat.? Only thing it’s missing in my eyes is the ability to group the to-do’s into different lists.? Nevertheless, I appreciate the find!? Thanks opa!

Another UPDATE (July 15, 2007): Thanks to PaintChip (see comment below) I’ve discovered that the To-Do plugin by Abstract Dimension seems to be no longer available (the site is down). I did some digging and found “Our To-Do plugin” at the site, “WordPress by Examples“.  It is based on the original To-Do plugin is an improved version of it. I haven’t tried it yet but it looks nifty.
